Development Goals

Goal 1

To improve accessibility of tribal and dalit children and youth to basic education and livelihood skills respectively

  • Support early age education (formal and non-formal) and adult education based on local environment and culture
  • Promote education based on human values, social cohesion and local culture
  • To widen the range of knowledge and understanding of the social, economic and political system in order to create a critical awareness about the environment
  • Increase employment generation skills and options among youths

Goal 2

To minimise gender inequality and undertake proactive women’s empowerment initiatives

  • Effective redressal mechanism for exploitation of, and atrocities against, women
  • Promotion and strengthening of grassroots level women's organisations and networks to take up inequality and empowerment related issues
  • Increased participation of women in gram sabhas and panchayati raj institutions (PRIs)
  • Increased access by women to easy credit for creation of productive assets and income generation opportunities
  • Increased access by women to basic health support services
  • To improve the health status of women and children of dalits, tribals and backward communities
  • To ensure that people have access to better health, education and sanitation in villages.

Goal 3

To improve the socio-economic and political conditions of tribals and dalits and facilitate their increased control over natural resources and their optimal utilisation

  • Land and water resource management and development
  • Improve rain-water harvesting and percolation for improving agricultural productivity
  • Promotion of agro-based support services
  • Value addition to local natural resources and marketing options
  • Improve scope for income generating activities

Goal 4

To improve community participation in local planning and strengthen panchayati raj institutions for increased access to, and use of, developmental resources

  • Capacity building of gram sabhas and PRIs
  • Strengthening of gram sabha members for their active participation and decision-making in local governance process
  • Promotion of community managed village development information centres
  • Information dissemination on power of gram sabha and their role in mobilising resources for local area development

Goal 5

To strengthen civil society and improve its access to information and opportunities

  • Strengthening of individuals, community based organisations (CBOs) and networks to act as catalyst and pressure groups
  • Strengthening of local cadres and volunteers to identify and find solutions to address local problems effectively

Goal 6

To promote and undertake necessary actions for protecting social justice and fundamental rights among tribal and dalits

  • Situation assessment and documentation of ground realities to highlight violation and denial of social justice and fundamental rights
  • Network with local civil society institutions and strengthen alliance to identify issues in relation to human rights violations
  • Interface and exchange of information between the target groups and the government machinery
  • Public hearings between the affected families and concerned administration
  • Issue-based campaign and lobbying at both macro and micro level for redressal
  • Highlighting of issues by using local media and various other mediums
  • Legal support and facilitation to affected families in the form of taking up both individual and common cases with judiciary

Goal 7

To create a sustainable environment by influencing public policy at state level on pro-poor livelihood and human rights issues

  • Promotion of a human rights resource centre to act as human rights violation watch-dog and support centre
  • Awareness building and sensitisation among tribals and dalits about their fundamental right to livelihood
  • Issue-based advocacy and lobbying of issues with government bureaucrats and legislative members
  • Policy advocacy to influence government policies on common issues
  • Public interest litigations that appeal to the judiciary to give legal directions to concerned government machinery for action and policy change
  • Workshops and seminars on pro-poor livelihood support and human rights related issues at regular intervals
