This report aims to highlight potential livelihood opportunities for the rural and tribal communities of Bundelkhand. Most of the research work was carried out in Patha region of Chitrakoot district, where ABSSS, our partner NGO has the most extensive projects. The biggest opportunities for intervention and improvement of livelihood situations are found in agriculture and through non-timber forest produce. The Lar Panchayat is located in the Tikamgarh district of MP which is among the most backward districts in Bundelkhand. The panchayat comprises the main village and 7 hamlets surrounding it. Most of the hamlets are homogeneous in terms of caste. The area seems to be extremely conservative; there is a high degree of social stratification. Seasonal migration done by rural households (HHs) in India is seen by some as a sign of agrarian distress and slow growth in the rural economy. The BRPAM project, supported by JTT, is being implemented by ABSSS in 40 villages of 20 panchayats of Tikamgarh block of Tikamgarh district, MP. Of these 40 villages, 20 contiguous villages of 14 panchayats are selected for intensive intervention.
